(Port) Wine of the month May 2022: Vallado 50y old Tawny Port
The biggest challenge of the Vallado Ports is to rival their DOC wines. The Quinta always had a fascinating variety of aged Tawny Ports and with the Tributa and the ABF even more two absolute jewels in the luxury Tawny segment. Since 2022 they are legally able to bottle the 50y old Tawny Ports. “I thought I would fill 1.000 bottles to the end of the year and be happy with them” says Francisco Ferreira, Vallado’s owner: “but I am already at the second lot as demands are incredibly high”. Olive-golden reflections in the red-orange colour. Nicely supporting hints of Douro bake, nuts, dry fruits and tobacco. Balanced notes of oranges, tobacco and walnut with perfectly supporting acidity on the palate. Long and balanced aftertaste. 19/20
